Chisos Mountains
One of the wonderful memories I have of my Dad was a vacation Kathy and I took with Mother and Dad to Big Bend National Park early 1990´s(?). Dad was having health problems and he new it. One day while we were all sitting around the kitchen table there at their house Dad said let's all go to Big Bend! We all paused for a second...then we all said...Well ok...another pause...let's go!. Mother spent time gathering travel brochures and making phone calls and with a bit of planning we were soon on our way! Spent one memorable night in Marathon, Texas at the famous Gage Hotel before driving into the park the next day.Our home for a week would be the Chisos Moutains Lodge. We really tried hard to do as many hiking trails and back roads as possible but Dad´s health slowed us a bit. He was a real trooper but we did have to slow it down a couple of days so he could recoup. It was a great trip, lots of photos, lots of great memories.
I think back on this trip often. I find myself going back through the photos and reliving these wonderful moments. Little did I know at the time just how much of an impact this trip would have on my work. Years later and even today I find myself still staring at the photos and trying to figure out how to deal with all the memories.
The Chisos Mountain pieces came about as a result of this wonderful trip to Big Bend and eventually led me to the islands. Thanks Mom and Dad for the memories! Miss you!
